What to Expect

What is a somatic session like?

You may be interested in somatic work and still feel unsure about what happens in a session. We begin with what you most want for yourself and work from where you are.

Somatic means relating to the body. Alongside what you share in words, we bring attention to your experience—sensations, breath, movement, and what you notice in the present moment.

Beginning Together

What would you most like for yourself?

This question opens every session. Your answer gives us an intention to tend to, both for our time that day and for our work together.

At our first meeting, I ask how you found me and what prompted you to seek support. If there are difficult experiences you want me to know about, I invite brief “newspaper headlines” to begin with, rather than a detailed trauma history.

Greater ease. Clearer boundaries. A deeper connection to yourself.

You may know what you want, or you may still be discovering it. There is room for both.

Learning your body’s language.

We may notice a held breath, tension in your jaw, a sense of warmth, or an impulse to move. There is no fixed meaning to assign to a sensation. We become curious about your experience and follow what you notice.

“I don’t know,” “I’m not sure,” and “I don’t feel anything” are all welcome answers. You’re learning a language; you don’t have to arrive already knowing it.

Depending on your intentions, our work may include Somatic Experiencing™ (SE), Medical QiGong, Brain Network Attunment™ (BNA), Somatic IFS or parts work, meditation, or energy work. We may also build skills for recognizing your needs and expressing boundaries.

Your pace. Your choices.

Your own knowing, preferences, and direction guide the process. I may offer an invitation or suggestion, and there is room to pause, ask questions, or take time to notice what feels right.

In-person sessions may include touch work. Online, I may invite attention to an area of your body and ask permission to join with my attention and intention. I ask permission before either form of contact.

You can say “no,” “not yet,” or “give me a moment.” Recognizing and expressing your boundaries is part of the work.

After a session.

I may offer tools to use between sessions and invite you to notice what comes up, including dreams over the following nights. There is no particular experience you need to have.

If feelings such as grief, anger, or irritability arise, we can bring those experiences into our work together. We discuss what may be relevant for you as we go.

Your next step.

Sessions are 50 minutes, available in person in West Los Angeles or online. You can book directly when you’re ready.
